Look and Sea Visitor Centre and Harbour Lights Riverside Café & Dining

Littlehampton is situated where the River Arun meets the sea and this has influenced its history and development. A harbour was first established here in the 16th century and it became a seaside destination in the 18th century. It is a place where boats are, and always have been, important. Today it has a beautiful new river promenade and a beach that is consistently rated as clean and safe. It also has the iconic Look & Sea Visitor Centre, situated on the river next to the public slipway, its tall viewing tower peering far out to sea, and its riverside restaurant serving fresh local seafood.

Who Are we?

The Centre was built in 2003 as part of the East Bank Regeneration Scheme and redeveloped in 2010 with Heritage Lottery funding. Here you can find out about the maritime history and geography of Littlehampton and the surrounding area in a fun environment that has lots to offer children of all ages, and plenty to keep adults interested too. Above the exhibition rises our two-storey viewing tower, giving a 360° view of a large area of West Sussex, including Arundel, Chichester and the South Downs. Both exhibition and viewing tower are included in our small entrance fee.

Below the Heritage Centre is the bright and comfortable Harbour Lights restaurant, where you can enjoy a coffee, a snack or a full meal. In good weather you can sit in our outside eating area and watch the swans swim lazily up the Arun as you dine on delicious dishes cooked by our own fine chefs.

And don’t forget to pop into our little gem of a shop, where you can purchase souvenirs and unique local crafts to take home with you. The shop also contains the official Littlehampton Visitor Information Centre and our knowledgeable staff will answer your queries and provide leaflets and brochures to help you enjoy your stay here in Littlehampton or venture further into West Sussex.

THE LOOK & SEA CENTRE HAS A LOT GOING ON!

In term time we host visiting school parties, with volunteers available to lead sessions on many subjects to fit in with educational needs. We also provide educational packs to help teachers prepare for a visit with their students. We are happy to work with other groups, such as brownie packs or adults with special needs, and organise a visit to suit their particular requirements.

Outside of the main tourist season we arrange other events, the most popular being our lecture lunches and tea talks, both of which quickly sell out. Recent subjects have included Roman Chichester, Living on a Canal Boat, Gardens of South East England and The Hippy Has a Bus Pass. Our equally popular quiz nights give small prizes for the top three teams and provide a hearty meal to complete a good evening out.
We also have a fully equipped function room that can cater for any of life’s transitions and celebrations. As a conference room it can cope equally well with the demands of a business meeting or training session.
